Today, a friend and I took a ride around Lake Tahoe. The weather was perfect for this Labor Day weekend. The ride is supposed to be 74 miles but due to a navigational SNAFU, we ended up riding about 80 miles. We started in South Lake Tahoe and stopped for lunch at a nice bagel/sandwich shop in Tahoe City. The ride was great, even though I was very out of shape due to other commitments over the past couple months. The one problem with the day was the traffic. I’ve been to Lake Tahoe several times in the past few years and today the traffic was the worst I’ve ever seen. If you are going to do this ride, I would plan on doing it on a weekday or start extremely early. We started at 9 AM and the traffic was already heavy. All told, the ride took us about 4 hours and 15 minutes and we did about 4,400 feet of climbing. If you have the opportunity to do this ride, jump on it. The views are amazing and the air is delicious.
