This weekend saw the opening of the local ski area, China Peak. A friend and I decided to brave the early season conditions and spent the day riding. The conditions were extremely favorable, considering how early in the season it is. The early season snow also gave me a chance to test out a product that I recently purchased, the Inno Racks Gravity Snow Rack. This ski and snowboard rack fits nicely on the factory installed roof rack on our family SUV. The rack is a breeze to assemble with clearly marked instructions and a clever design that negates the need for tools. Once the rack is installed on your vehicle, it is able to transport up to 4 snowboards or 6 pairs of skis and several combinations there off. This past weekend we easily fit two rather large (165 cm) snowboards on the rack with little trouble. Due to the space between my vehicle’s roof and the factory installed crossbar, to fit more than two snowboard would require taking off the bindings of any additional snowboards. I see this as a particular issue with my vehicle and not necessarily an issue with the rack. The rack also has locking mechanisms on both the front and back clamp so that someone can’t just walk up and take your boards or skis. The rack also has some nifty engineered roof attachments that would make it very difficult, although not impossible, to remove the whole rack from the vehicle roof. I see the likelihood of this extremely small though due to the time it would take to accomplish this task. Overall, I thought the Inno Racks Gravity Snow Rack was a great purchase. It was significantly less expensive than other similarly featured ski and snowboard rack and worked as advertised.
